Paper stories: Fabriano and its famous watermark

Art and Culture

There are stories that need to be told, especially when they have persisted for seven hundred years: let's talk about the famous Fabriano paper. Pasty, ivory, pleasant to the touch and knurled in transparency. Just touching it creates a pleasant sensation and takes us back through the centuries, to a Middle Ages of artisans and scribes from "Name of the Rose"!

Entering the Museum of Fabriano, in the excellently restored former Convent of the Dominican friars, means having an unusual experience: it is a museum different from the others because the art of paper is still a living art, in fact it is still produced and used in everything the world for prestigious editions and special occasions, an art that could even be learned by observing the stages of production, why not?

In the industrious Marche there is therefore a reality that also fascinates for the beauty of its product. The materials used for this paper are very carefully chosen: cotton, hemp and linen, with special dyes and a very careful preparation of the mixture. The machinery is the same as it was centuries ago, nothing has changed at all, this is what truly makes the Museum an opportunity not to be missed. In such a technological age where the human connotation increasingly seems to lose more importance, it is nice to know that manual skill, experience and craftsmanship still have so much importance here.
The museum is also open on Sundays: www.museodellacarta.com
