Eight new rooms on the second floor of the Palazzo Ducale in Urbino. for us accustomed to it, who once a year went for a walk to remember a painting or another that we hadn't noticed or barely looked at the time before, it's really good news: we always stopped on the first floor, for admire the Jole room or that decidedly heavy but completely appropriate canopy bed for the period of reference. In Urbino the Palazzo Ducale is always a living work, in continuous ferment. Federico's legacy is in the hands of expert people, but also full of passion.
The new rooms contain the legacy of the writer Paolo Volponi, wonderful author of "The Road to Rome", in which he recounts the murky and innocent Italy of the years that mark the transition from the post-war period to the economic miracle, and these are works such as "David with the head of Goliath” by Guido Reni; “San Sebastiano” by Guercino; “Loth and his daughters” by Battistello Caracciolo; ”the Sacrifice of Isaac” by Mattia Preti; ”the Alms of St. Elizabeth” by Bartolomeo Schedoni; the "Dispute between philosophers" by Salvator Rosa; “Origen” by Jusepe de Ribera; “David with the head of Goliath” by Orazio Gentileschi. Masterpieces valued at approximately 2.100.000,00 euros. And also paintings by authors such as Federico Barocci or Simone Cantarini loaned by the Pinacoteca di Brera (part of the ministerial program «Ritorno a casa»), and other works on loan from the Cassa di Risparmio di Pesaro Foundation, including ceramics.
